General Facts –
• Native to the eastern Himalayas and Assam
• Produces small, pink, fragrant blooms. A slight fragrance of
butterscotch is emitted from the flowers.
• Wonderful trailing, cascading habit. Excellent for hanging
baskets.
• Sometimes known as Hoya longifolia and often confused with
the species kentiana.
Light: Bright, indirect light. Too much light will turn the leaves yellow. Does well in a
western-facing window.
Temperature: Ideal is between 68-72F. Avoid drafts and sudden temperature
fluctuations. This can cause new leaves, flowers, and growth to abort.
Humidity: This species loves humidity. It will adapt to less but prefers 50-60%. You can
add a humidifier or a shallow dish with gravel and water. Grouping plants also helps.
Watering: Allow to dry thoroughly and then water and saturate the entire soil column.
Fertilizer: Weekly during regular growing cycle – summer and fall. Every 3 weeks
during winter. I use 100 ppm of Nitrogen at every irrigation. Use balanced houseplant
fertilizer.
Pruning: Cascading habit, excellent in a hanging basket.
Insects and Disease: Aphids, Mealy Bugs, Whitefly, and root rot.
